60 years later, teacher Duang inherited the drum from King
Badin. Many revered this drum as an instrument with a spirit

allegiance to the spirit of the drum, they must honor their
pledge or suffer ill fate.
Ping, a young orphan was determine to study traditional art.
He resigned from his government job and went to ask teacher
Duang to accept him as her disciple. He was so eager to learn
that he secretly practiced during the night. One night he
met a young girl name Tip. She saw his determination and she
started to teach him.
They grew close and fall in love. Deputy Chief of the town
wanted the drum for himself and sent some people to confiscate
it. Duang fought them off but have to agree on drumming contest.

and 'The Restless' Pre-Sales at AFM
Korea's CJ Entertainment has apparently concluded a number
of deals on pre-sales of director PARK Chan-wook's ‘I'm
a Cyborg,
But That's OK’ and CHO Dong-oh's fantasy epic ‘The
Restless’ at the American Film Market which wrapped
up earlier this month.
PARK's

pop-star Rain in his big-screen debut. The domestic release
of the film is scheduled for December 7th, and is rated 12,

the script is still under wraps, the film was sold on the
strength of its director, the unusual synopsis, and its star-power.

Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. The film was also sold
to India, Greece, while a major deal for France, where Park’s
films are well-received, is on the verge of conclusion.

of Wits' No1 at Box Office
Thanks
to nationwide hype for the Chinese war epic 'Battle of Wits,'
the movie's box office takings in the first weekend reached
20 million yuan across China. Gao Jun from the New Film Association

'Duelist'
to hit U.K cinemas
Contender
Entertainment Group, have announced the UK theatrical release
of ‘Duelist’. It's an interesting choice of movie
to make, as it is relatively unknown in the west, and has
had some rather mixed reviews in Asia. The general consensus
there has been that it looks stunning, but at times the convoluted
plot could be a little directionless and confusing.
Synopsis:
"Detective Namsoon goes undercover with her partner Ahn
to investigate the influx of counterfeit money into their
countries economy . But when all the prime suspects are killed,
the case becomes a much deeper mystery. She discovers one
loyal henchman, Sad Eyes, a swordsman with a pale blank face,

'Naresuan'
emerges as two-parter
Well
this is a turn up. According to ‘Variety asia’
Director Chatrichalerm Yukol has so much material in the can,
he has decided to break his forthcoming Thai epic "The
Legend of King Naresuan" into two separate movies. In
a novel marketing twist, both films will arrive in theaters
simultaneously.
The
release has also been pushed back from Dec 21 to Jan 18, 2007
to coincide with the Thai Army Day. The two movies feature
related-yet-independent storylines, with the titular 16th
century king as the central character of both. “Audiences
can watch the two films successively, or they may choose to
see either of them. The life of King Naresuan is packed with
interesting events, from his childhood years spent as a hostage
in Burma to his campaign to restore freedom to the Kingdom
of Ayutthaya,” Yukol said.
If
they are splitting the film into two, that must mean these
movies are going to be seriously epic, and LONG.

Major
web updates for Thai epic - 'King Naresuan'
There
have been some major updates on the website for this year’s
Thai epic ‘King Naresuan.’ Helmed by Chatrichalerm
Yukol a prolific director since the 1970s, he is best known
in the West for his 2001 historical epic, The
Legend of Suriyothai, the most expensive Thai film (so
far) ever made. From the trailer alone (second icon from the
left) you can tell they have spent an absolute fortune on
this production.
The movie concerns the life of King Naresuan, who liberated
the Siamese from the control of Burma. Taken to Burma as a
child as a hostage; there he became acquainted with sword
fighting and became a threat to the Burmese empire. The English
language version of the site isn't working as yet, but there
are tons of things to be seen in the mean time. [source]

Rhona
Mitra joins - 'Doomsday'
Rhona Mitra, known for her work on ABC's "Boston Legal"
and "The Practice," has signed on to star in the
futuristic action thriller "Doomsday." The Rogue
Pictures project will be writer/director Neil Marshall's follow-up
to his women-in-distress horror "The Descent."
Production is due to begin in early 2007. "Doomsday"
is set three decades after a lethal virus tore through a major
country, leading to the country's walling off. When the virus,
known as the Reaper, resurfaces in another country, an elite
group is dispatched to the infected country to find a cure.
There, they end up shut off from the rest of the world and
must battle through a landscape that has become a waking nightmare.
Mitra plays the leader of the elite group. Mitra next appears
in the horror movie "Skinwalkers" and New Line's
Jim Carrey thriller "The Number 23." The plot sounds
rather '28 days later', but the film is apparently more sci-fi
than horror based.

Malaysian
Horror 'Nephesh Seed' becomes 'Seed of Darkness'
We
originally covered the Malaysian Horror movie 'Nephesh Seed',
the first ever full-length Chinese language feature film to
be made in that country, way back on August
17th. Now we've discovered it has undergone an eleventh
hour name change to become 'Seed of Darkness.' Perhaps the
studio decided 'Nephesh Seed' wasn't a particularly inspiring
title to entice Horror fans. The story deals with the life
of a single mother, who undergoes a medical procedure known
as in-vitro fertilisation in Singapore, to have a child of
her own. Five years later, she moves into a new apartment
and she notices that her child begins to behave oddly. Her
fears begin to mount when she finds her child frequently talking
to himself in the presence of a shadowy figure. Along with
news on the name change, we have tracked down the film poster,
and the first trailer for the flick. Both are looking good.
Movie opens in December.

cut of the film two weeks ago, and decided that it was strong
enough to be a "summer tentpole" movie. The opening
date has been moved from March 2007 to July 2007. That goes
a long way to say they must have a hell of a lot of confidence
in the films ability to compete against other studios heavy
hitting summer releases. With Gaiman’s writing talent,
and the stella cast (including Robert De Niro and Michelle
Pfeiffer) we could be in for a real fantasy classic next summer.

Catling
to transform ‘Tomo’ for the big screen
The
feature version of “Tomo,” an award-winning short
film by filmmaker Paul Catling, is set to start shooting in
the spring. The film won both the Short Film Award at Sundance
Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize at the Boston Independent
Film Festival in 2004. It features an angry, sometime drunken
astronaut who is marooned on bleak icy planet with no one
but a mischievous cyborg called TOMO as sole companion. The
brilliantly crafted film mixes live action with CGI. The CG
character, TOMO (”companion” in Japanese) is driven
by motion capture data recorded at Artem Digital to match
moves filmed on location in Iceland. The robot TOMO is seen
full screen, often directly interacting with the human character.
The film demonstrates the ability of motion capture to imbue
life into CG characters. If the story's as good as the effects,
this could be brilliant. For a taster of what may be to come,
you can take a look at a clip from the original short film
here.

Weinstein
Co. and IFC pick up - 'Black Sheep'
Great
news for American horror fans. The independent film channel
and the Weinstein Co. have teamed again to pick up ‘Black
Sheep,’ the horror comedy about good sheep gone bad,
for North American distribution. IFC will handle theatrical
release on its First Take label; The Weinstein’s will
release it on DVD through its Genius Products home video arm.
If you missed it first time around, you can check out a clip
from the film that was shown on new Zealand TV.

New
one sheet for Spanish Horror - 'KM31'
Now
that's more like it. The new one sheet for Rigoberto Castañeda’s
upcoming horror has a far more sinister feel, compared with
the teaser poster we first posted back on Sept 7th. We have
also found several new stills from the film. Links below.
