'Worst case scenario' -Shoot to finally start on Independent Zombie Film

Well sort off! I first came across this movie well over a year ago. Ever since first reading about it in 2004 the production has pretty much been mired in funding problems. Now it seems the boys at 'Gorehound' films have finally found the money to make fantastic looking Zombie flick. The story is.. A group of friends attempt to escape the mayhem of the Football world cup by traveling to a North Sea Island, where they, “wind up in situations far, far worse.” A truly impressive promo teaser that can be seen at the site reveals what makes the situation so bad: The island is infested by aquatic Nazi zombies. Sound bizarre. Looks great fun! the Shoot is 'due' to start late spring. Fingers crossed there are no more delays. Check out the site for several teaser trailers.

Hot on the heels of news about the promising Brit Horror film 'Human Residue' that we covered at the beginning of April, comes another Independent UK horror flick 'Reverb'. Alone, locked in overnight, he samples an old record with a terrifying voice hidden in the music. As more frightening events occur, the band try to unravel the truth behind the hidden plea on the record leading to a life or death battle with evil. Perfect Creature-"Humans and Vampires have lived in Harmony. Until now..."

A tag line like that gets a film noticed around here. I'm a huge fan of Vamp films and something original in the genre is long passed due. With this we 'may' just have it. Set during the 1960s in an alternate New Zealand known as Nuovo Zelandia, "Perfect Creature" imagines a world where vampires and humans peacefully co-exist, with the bloodsuckers the next step in human evolution. This delicate balance looks to be destroyed when an influenza epidemic begins to sweep the human population and one vampire turns to preying on humans. The church sends out Silus (Scott) to catch the renegade vampire, Edgar. Silus joins forces with a human police captain Burrows), and discovers that Edgar harbors dark secrets. The film recently premiered at the Amsterdam film festival, and is slated for release later this year. We are avidly waiting for the first trails, but the official site is not active yet. I have though tracked down a bio page for 'Dougray Scott' that has a fair amount of info on it. Dougray Scott (Bio)

City of Violence - New Trailer online

Well this does look fun! City of Violence is directed by 'Ryu Seung-Wan' the man behind one of our fave Korean martial arts movies of last year 'Arahan'. This is a film that's seems to be going for full on martial arts action, and from the trailer its looks like they've succeeded. Check out the new clip for yourself. Also keep an eye out to see if you can spot in several scenes, what appears to me to be a small nod of recognition (intentional or otherwise) to Tarantino's Kill bill Vol 1.

'Junk' - Slick new Russian thriller

It seems the Russian film industry if far from content with just showing Hollywood how it should be done with the genre of Horror. Now they appear to be turning their attention to Thrillers as well . Depressed and disillusioned with her job, she considers changing occupation after she witnesses an employee of her publication shot by a police sniper. Zhang Ziyi's Movie to be Released after 3-year Delay

'Jasmine Flower' starring Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi has been cleared for release on the Chinese mainland on April 25, after a three-year delay caused by disputes between its financial backers. Directed by Hou Yong, its a triple romance of three women - Mo, her daughter Li and Li's adopted daughter Hua, all of whom are played by Zhang.
The movie tries to capture the lives of Chinese women during different periods of the 20th century and also stars Jiang Wen, Chen Chong, Liu Ye and Lu Yi. The film originally finished shooting in June 2003 and won The Grand Jury Prize at the 7th Shanghai International Film Festival in 2004. While romance movies aren't our usual cup of hot steaming java, anything with Zhang Ziyi in it is fine by us. Well sort of.

'Peter Chan' - to remake Blood Brother & produce The Eye 3

'The Eye 2' director Peter Chan has been quoted in an interview that he would direct or produce five or six projects this year. Chan will direct the remake of martial-art classic "Blood Brother," released in 1973. Shooting might begin in September this year. This one is expected to hit Hong Kong and hopefully mainland Chinese theaters by December. Another interesting scoop, is the news that Chan will also produce another episode of the "The Eye" series and presumably, it will still be helmed by the Pang Brothers - Oxide and Danny. Title of the new flick will either be "The Eye 3" or "The Eye 11". Shooting might begin by the end of this year. While on the topic of the 'Eye' series he is also set to be the executive producer of the Hollywood remake of the original horror flick. You can check out a review of the 1973 original of Blood brother here at Kung Fu Cinema. (Story Source:Chinabroadcast)

A co-production between Universe and Thailand's Magic Head Film Production, the pictures are currently being filmed in Thailand and scheduled for release towards the end of the year. Monarch of The Moon- trailer online

We first reported on this madcap homage to the sci-fi show reels of the 40s back on the 28th of March. Produced by 'Dark Horse entertainment' this is a film that seems intent on parodying the genre to the full. And succeeding fully by the looks of it. You can check out the camp action in a trailer that has just come online at the official site. Cheese anyone? Great stuff!

Mass hysteria - Thai schoolgirls on the rampage

Once again it looks like the Thai horror film industry has come up with quite a production. Building on some other great releases such as the excellent 'Shutter' and the gory as hell 'Art of the Devil', if they continue to make films of this caliber, it wont be long before they will be surpassing their neighbors in Korea and Japan. Mass Hysteria is supposedly based on a true incident in a Thai all girls school, where the pupils all begin to claim they are under the influence of a dark evil spirit. One by one they succumb and violent disorder erupts. Just released in cinemas in Thailand, we are looking forward to a DVD release soon!

Re-Cycle - 'Pang' brothers new movie, website goes live!

Well colour us all excited! The website for the 'Pang' brothers new Horror fantasy has come online and my its looking good. The main character is played by 'Angelica Lee', the star of the worldwide hit Pang bro's horror film ''The Eye'. Synopsis."There is an alternate plane of reality parallel to our own, one that serves as a dumping ground for discarded and forgotten hopes, dreams, and desires. As those dreams are discarded they are caught up in this alternate reality. Lee stars as a young writer who is working on her second novel, a supernatural story, who gets drawn into this alternate reality after discarding an early draft of her work". Shimizu: 'Grudge 2' to differ from 'Ju-On 2'

Takashi Shimizu has revealed that he is taking a different direction in The Grudge 2. Having already directed Ju-On and its English-language remake The Grudge, he told 'Comingsoon.net' that The Grudge 2 will take a different approach in order to keep the idea fresh. "The Grudge was a complete remake of Ju-On, meaning the storyline was very similar, basically the same," he explained. "But Grudge 2 is actually different from Ju-On 2. I don't think I would have accepted this job if it was going to be the same storyline. Since it is a different story, my motivation was a lot higher, and I actually enjoyed doing this." Starring Amber Tamblyn and featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar, The Grudge 2 is expected to be released in October.

Wicked City to get live action remake

Aside from the original 'Legend of the overfeind" one of my fave Anime movies was 'Wicked City'. Directed by 'Yoshiaki Kawajiri' who later went on to produce Ninja Scroll it was releases 1987, to be followed a year later by a sequel 'Monster City'. It now appears that a live action, English language remake is in the offing. Germany's Stallion Film are to stump up a reasonable $50 million-$60 million budget whilst "Spawn" director Mark Dippe will direct and co-produce.

R.I.P.D - 'Rest In Peace Department'

Well it seems the rush in Hollywood to jump onto the 'movie from a comic' bandwagon is gathering even greater speed. The latest offering revealed in Time out news is a film version of the Dark Horse comics 'R.I.P.D'. Story wise its been described as "a cross between Ghostbusters and Men in Black. Telling the tale of the 'Rest In Peace Department', 'R.I.P.D.' revolves around a recently murdered cop who joins forces with a group of divine law enforcement agents charged with ridding the earth of recently deceased spirits. The 'Wedding Crashers' director 'David Dobkin' will take charge of the high-concept project later this year, based on a script by 'Aeon Flux' scribes Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi. The Comics creator Peter Lenkov will produce.

X-men producer talks multiple! sequels

Read an interesting article on comingsoon.net. They interviewed 'Lauren Shuler Donner' producer of all three of the current x-men movies. She also has confirmed the Wolverine spin off was in the works, and that they had more than enough material from the comics to do more. Quote.. "Our original goal was to have like 'Star Wars', 'X-Men' 7, 8, 9 and 10 because there are certainly enough comics out there. And of course to have spin-offs. It would be nice as we incorporated new characters into each movie if they could continue to move on." I guess you could say thats a lot more then!

Renaissance - A classic sci-fi film noir

We have known about this film for some time and when we first saw the early trailers we were stunned by the visuals. A sci-fi film noire in a very literal sense. It is filmed with actual actors, but transformed into a black and white comic-strip style you have never seen before. The mood is reminiscent of Blade Runner, but set in a future Paris dominated by huge monolithic structures and technology. Although already released in france, I recently read that it will get a screening at the Amsterdam film festival. Lucky Them! We are still hoping it will get a limited release in UK cinemas with subtitles. If not fingers crossed the DVD has English subs. On checking the website (a thing of beauty too) today I was surprised to find a new trailer has been added. Check it out!

District 13 - (Luc Besson) new clip online

Seems the guys over at 'Total film' have found themselves a new trail for this very slick looking freerunning (also known as parkour) gangster movie. District 13 is a Luc Besson produced flick that is a fast paced combination of martial arts and eye-popping Parkour set ups. Starring Parkour co-founder David Belle, the tale centers on the ghettoes of Paris in 2010 as an undercover cop and ex-thug try to worm their way into a gang in order to defuse a neutron bomb. Directed by Pierre Morel (cinematographer on The Transporter and Unleashed). The film gets a 'limited' US release in May with a UK date in cinemas of 21 July. Take a look a the trailer for some stunning stunts! No crash mats there methinks.

Dead Daughters gets English language web site

This up coming Russian horror movie first got highlighted on 'Twitch film' about a month ago. The film immediately went on to my must see list just from the teaser trails alone. Russia does J-Horror and it looks creepy as hell to boot. The web site looked great, but was of course wholly in Russian. Fine for trailers, but for those not up on their foreign language skills, somewhat of a challenge to get to grips with the other written content. Now it seems some kind soul has seen fit to produce an exact copy of the entire site, in English. Hoorah!

Sin-Jin Smyth, Web site and teaser trail

Well this upcoming movie from 'Snap kick productions' certainly has everyone in an buzz. Roddy Piper the X wrestler turned actor, and star of one of my favorite John Carpenter films 'They Live' plays a a federal marshal transporting a prisoner who may or may not be the devil. The Story:"Every Halloween at midnight, the devil simultaneously appears in two places. The High Plains in India and a quiet cemetery in Kansas. It's November 2nd, The Day of the Dead. On this dark and stormy night, two federal marshals report to the town Purgatory to transport a prisoner only known as Sin-Jin Smyth"

Plane Dead

With a tag line of "Un-dead" at 30' 000 feet" who could not include this in the news! I Picked up this from the guys over at The film Asylum and the story goes something like this.. "On board a flight from LA to Paris a renegade scientist is on the run from the CIA, and in his possession a coffin that contains a body infected with a genetically engineered virus. When the plane hits a particularly bad storm the flesh-hungry ghoul is awakened and mayhem ensues". Sounds like damn good start to me. 'Optic Nerve' provided the zombie effects for Plane Dead , having come off projects like the last two Return of the Living Dead sequels it will certainly look pretty good on the effects front . There is only a teaser trailer available so far, so check it out.

Human Residue - A new independent UK Horror film

I stumbled across this possible gem as I was reading my away around some of the the more well known Horror movie film forums. To quote the site "Human Residue (working title) is a non-profit independent feature film currently being made in York, England by 'Rickety Shack Films'. Inspired by supernatural horror movies like The Ring, Alien, 28 Days Later and The Village; this is a cinematic survival story in a post-apocalyptic world realized by a team of dedicated independent film makers". Films Synopsis "Seven volunteers without much in common all signed up for the same temporal isolation program. Whilst not particularly interested in the medical research purposes of the experiment, for a £7000 payment, they could live with being sealed inside an underground bunker for a period of three and a half weeks. While they were under something went terribly wrong". Cutting through the blurb I checked out the site and the two easer trailers so far available. I have to say, if the production values shown in those trailers are mirrored in the final release, for a low budget independent horror flick this looks like it may well be (fingers crossed they have a decent script) excellent. We shall Definitely be keeping and eye on this one. Human Residue (official site)

Samuel L Jackson - manages hotel of horror

Well this is interesting. One genre Mr Jackson has yet to really dip a toe far into is Horror. Now that seems set to change. Time out magazine have dropped the news that he has signed up to play the manager of a haunted hotel in the forthcoming Stephen King adaptation '1408'. Also set to star is 'John Cusack' as the character 'Mike Enslin', an investigator of the paranormal who checks into the supposedly haunted room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel. With these two acting heavyweights behind it here hoping for a 'good' adaptation of a King novel. Because lets face it, it's been a while. No web site as yet but we will keep you posted.
