- BUBBLEGUM CRISIS heading for the big screen

Well hats off to them for the scale of their ambition – At Cannes, producers from six countries (U.K, China, U.S, Japan, Canada, Singapore) have just agreed a deal to take a on a $30 million English-language live action remake, of the classic cyber punk Anime - Bubblegum Crisis. With an opening set for delivery in early 2012 a director and cast have yet to be attached, but a spokesman for the project has let slip that "Crisis" will feature two male leads and a quartet of female action gals - two Caucasian and two Asian. We hope they can pull it off. $30 million would be a very hefty budget for any Chinese/Japanese production but whether that will be enough to faithfully recreate a live action dystopian Tokyo mega city in the year 2032, populated by giant Mecha and armoured suit wearing mercenaries doing battle on the streets - without it looking like a second rate B-movie - remains to be seen……
