Announced at Cannes last year, 1949 was to be John Woo’s next big budget project following on from the massive success of Red Cliff. Well… not any more. Woo and Terence Chang's Lion Rock Productions has just announced the project has crashed and burned in a legal dispute over the script rights. Chang confirmed the fact to Screendaily yesterday, saying "it's an unfortunate decision". He has also said that the actors attached to the film, including Korean star Seong Hye-gyo and Taiwanese idol Chang Chen had been let go. It’s sad state off affairs that it got so far into pre-production without script rights being in the bag - But looking at the cup half full, it does mean is one of the greatest Hong Kong action directors, is free to take up a new project. Where would you even begin to start on a wish list !?
