• THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS gets a cast

Well this is a blast from the past - It was waaaay back in 2007 that we first reported that a contemporary remake of the classic Brit sci-fi horror The Day of the Triffids was in the works. After that, news on the production pretty much dropped off a cliff….until now. "Variety" have just released news on a pretty stellar cast list for the TV movie that will include: Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Eddie Izzard, Jason (hmm??) Priestley and Vanessa Redgrave. And its gets even better. ”ER” and “Law and Order” writer Patrick Harbinson has penned the script. A great story, and excellent writer, a superb cast and gritty British production values. Count us IN. Running at around 4 hours, the two part mini series will air on the BBC in the UK this year. No pics or trailer yet, but how about a teaser poster for the production to be going on with?

2011, man has created a substitute for fossil fuel by breeding a highly dangerous crop of plants upon which they rely for fuel and energy. When the human race is threatened by a near fatal meteor shower, the event also has a devastating effect on the Triffids - the creatures mutate and turn against mankind to take over the world. A select few fight to save themselves in what could be the last days of humankind.
