• TRICK ‘R TREAT finally gets an official release date

Finally! Warner Home Video has announced that they’ll be releasing Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘R Treat on DVD and Blu-Ray October 6th. Originally slated for release back in 2007, the film received almost unanimous positive reviews after screenings at film festivals, including the Audience Choice Award at the 2008 Los Angeles Screamfest, but constant unexplained delays continued to keep the film out of the hands of horror fans, leaving many of them irate. It looks like the wait is finally almost over now.

Trick ‘R Treat is an anthology of five scary stories, all related to Halloween and tied together by the appearance of Sam, the burlap pumpkin masked trick-or-treater who offers a “friendly reminder” to characters who break Halloween traditions.

It’s sad to see such a well reviewed, original American horror film suffer from delays like this while unintelligent remakes and glossy, over-produced Hollywood horror films are churned out regularly. Hopefully, horror fans will come out and support Trick ‘R Treat and hopefully Warner Brothers will get the message.

The Blu-Ray release will include a slew of special features including director commentary, additional scenes and multiple featurettes, but the regular DVD will only have a single featurette. So if you haven’t made the switch to Blu-Ray yet, this is as good an excuse as any.
